Supporting mental health

A personalised approach to mental health

Mental health and wellbeing means something different to everyone. It might mean being able to manage daily activities, live independently, find a job or build self-confidence.

With nearly half our funding dedicated towards mental health orientated programs, we have the experience and expertise to deliver best practice mental health support.  Our ability to work alongside health care professionals to enhance both community and individual mental health is why we’re one of the leading mental health community support providers in New South Wales. Importantly, we understand how to navigate the social, community, private and specialist mental health systems.

Our excellence in the sector was formally recognised in 2015 when New Horizons was awarded the Mental Health Matters Award of Commendation for Cross Sector Collaboration.

Enhancing mental wellbeing

Following recovery and person-centred approaches, we take the time to get to know each of our customers and develop a dynamic, personalised plan to support them to reach their individual goals.

We can assist with:

  • Life-stage and transition planning
  • Building life-skills to better cope with daily activities
  • Developing self-confidence
  • Accessing clinical and specialised services for behavioural and complex needs
  • Support with personal and domestic care
  • Finding suitable employment or accessing vocational training
  • Integrating into the community and developing social bonds
  • Finding suitable accommodation and maintaining tenancy

It all starts with a simple conversation, call 1300 726 372  or email us to discover how we can support you.

Mental Health & the NDIS

If you have a psychiatric mental health issue causing permanent and significant functional impairment you may be eligible for funding through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The NDIS provides individualised support for people under 65 years of age with permanent and significant disability, their families and carers. We can help you understand what mental health supports are covered by the NDIS and see if you are eligible for funding.

If you already have an NDIS package, we’ll work with you to provide
support aligned to your goals.

If you’re not eligible for the NDIS, we may be able to fund your supports through other programs like:

  • Community Living Support (CLS)
  • Housing & Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI)
  • Partners in Recovery (PIR), or
  • Personal Helpers & Mentors (PHaMs)

How to fund your support

There are several ways you can access New Horizons supports and services. We can provide advice and guidance to find the best funding option for you.

Government funding & NDIS

The government provides a number of funding options, including the NDIS, to help people like you pay for certain supports and services. Our Lifestyle Planners can talk you through your funding options.

People wishing to access specific supports and services who do not receive government funding or who wish to have additional supports outside of their government funding can choose to self-fund.

Health Insurance

In some cases, Private Health Insurance companies may pay for or subsidise the cost of certain supports and services. This will depend on your individual circumstances and policy details.
